Integrating Spirituality into Psychology

Although it changes from person to person, and some are not even aware of it, we all have a spiritual side. Spiritually Integrated Psychotherapy (SIP) recognizes this reality of human beings and incorporates spiritual aspects into the treatment with the consent of the client.

In the SIP approach, our understanding of the sacred shapes our beliefs, emotions, values, and relationships. It starts with a client’s understanding of the sacred, and explores how it affects their daily functioning.

Treatment approaches draw on aspects of the client’s faith, such as metaphors, prayers, dhikr (Rhythmic repetition of the names of God) with help of special breathing technique, worship, and significant figures. And sometimes, faith can be a problem for the client, and here SIP can explore the underlying factors for this while searching for solutions. All is done through collaboration with the client.
